For a change I woke up early enough to have some breakfast before the dancing lesson!
Judith suggested that we go to the Solo Travellers' Lunch. It was quite pleasant but as usual there are always one or two people who dominate such an event and don't allow anyone else to talk. This time it was the social hostess, who sat at our table.
I've been walking past the afternoon
tea every day that I've been around, looking for Battenberg cake. They don't
serve it very often and Cunard’s is the best I've tasted. Today I asked if they
had any and the Head Waiter told me he would put in a special order for me, so
they would make some as my dessert the next night! Back in my room half an hour
later there was a knock on the door and one of the waiters stood there with
four pieces of Battenberg cake for me! Now that's service. (I was told the next
day that they had arranged for the Grills restaurant to make it for me.)
Seeing I've missed two of my Oxford dancing lessons, I decided to treat myself to a lesson with Volodomyr, the professional dancer on the ship. It was a good lesson but it left me even more aware of how good a teacher and dancer my Oxford one is!
Because of all the Cunard cruises I have been on, I am now Platinum, so I get an invitation to a wine tasting (chose not to go but afterwards heard there had been four Australian wines, so it might have been good) and to the Senior Officers' cocktail party. I had invited Judith to come with me as my guest, and was pressured into inviting Paul, one of the Dance Hosts. (I discovered later that he had pressured other people on his previous cruises, and it was greatly annoying the other Dance Hosts.) The cocktail party began at 7.30. We lined up at 7.20 and managed to get a seat. For the first time I was actually offered canapes. The drinks are free. I manage with one glass of champagne but I have seen some people get through three.
Unfortunately I spent much of that night with cramps in my feet and legs, having to get out of bed and stand up. Ouch!
